Boats and water
Around boats and water, life jackets and the weather forecast matter most.
- Wear a life jacket, with child sizes for children.
- Don't board overloaded or unsound boats.
- Check weather and water warnings; cancel if a storm is coming.
ফরিদপুর
An old district on the south bank of the Padma and the birthplace of the 'rural poet' Jasimuddin. His family home by the Kumar river, the Mathurapur Deul in Madhukhali and Satoir Mosque in Boalmari are the main sights. Since the Padma Bridge opened, the trip from Dhaka via Bhanga has become much easier.

About the seasons: The winter months are best; in January the Jasim Mela fair marks the poet's birthday. The monsoon fills the rivers but leaves village roads muddy.
Regular buses run from Dhaka via the Padma Bridge and Bhanga to Faridpur town. The Paturia–Daulatdia ferry route is an alternative, though delays at the ghat are common.
Trains run from Dhaka over the Padma Bridge to Bhanga Junction; check whether a connecting service to Faridpur town suits you.
Rickshaws and auto-rickshaws in town. For Madhukhali and Boalmari, take a local bus or CNG, then a van or auto into the village.
Faridpur town has simple and mid-range hotels; options in the upazilas are limited.
This is general guidance on the kinds of stay available, not a recommendation of specific hotels. Check and book for yourself before you go.

A tall spired temple tower from roughly the 16th–17th century at Mathurapur, Madhukhali, decorated with terracotta. Accounts of who built it differ; standing alone in open fields, it is visible from far off.
The poet's family home at Ambikapur near Faridpur town, with a museum beside it and his grave close by. Sitting by the Kumar river in front, the countryside of his poems feels familiar.

A nine-domed Sultanate-era mosque at Satoir, Boalmari, among the older mosques in the country. Abandoned for a long time, it was restored in the 20th century and is still used for prayer.
Traffic on the Dhaka–Bhanga expressway is very fast, so take care getting off buses and crossing. The Paturia–Daulatdia ferry can stop in fog or storms. Avoid small boats on the Padma in the monsoon.

Practical tips, not rules. Customs vary by person and place, so watch what people around you do, ask when unsure, and use your own judgement.
Keep plenty of small notes. Cash is still the norm at village shops, tea stalls and on rickshaws.
Why: Change for large notes is often hard to find.
In towns many places accept bKash or Nagad, but do not rely on it in remote areas. Ask before you order or ride.
Why: Mobile payments stall wherever the network drops.
Withdraw the cash you need before leaving the district town. ATMs thin out in rural areas.
Agree the fare before you get into a CNG, rickshaw, van or boat: the trip out, the return and any waiting time. In bigger cities where ride apps work, they are an option too.
Why: Arguing about the fare afterwards leaves you with no bargaining power.
Buy long-distance bus tickets at the operator's counter and arrive a little before departure. On overnight buses keep a small bag within reach.
Launch, ferry and trawler timings shift with tides, weather and fog. Check at the ghat or with the boatman the day before.
Why: If the last boat has gone, there may be no way back that day.
Buses, trains and launches are packed around Eid. If you can, plan around those days.
