Jashore is the transport hub of the south-west, with an airport and Benapole, the country's largest land port. Michael Madhusudan Dutt's birthplace at Sagardari on the Kapotaksha, the flower fields of Godkhali in Jhikargachha and the winter date-palm sap and jaggery are what set the district apart.

About the seasons: December to February is when Godkhali's flower fields are at their most colourful and when fresh date sap and new jaggery appear. In late January a Madhu Mela fair marks Madhusudan's birthday at Sagardari.
Regular domestic flights connect Dhaka with Jashore Airport.
Direct trains run from Dhaka via the Padma Bridge rail link, and Jashore is on the line to Khulna and the north.
Buses run all day from Dhaka, and many Benapole-bound services pass through Jashore.
Easy-bikes and rickshaws are everywhere in town. Local buses run to Godkhali, Benapole and Keshabpur; hiring a car makes a Sagardari day trip easier.
Jashore town has mid-range and budget hotels, and Benapole has small hotels for travellers crossing the border.
This is general guidance on the kinds of stay available, not a recommendation of specific hotels. Check and book for yourself before you go.

The country's busiest land port and border crossing, opposite Petrapole in India; most overland travellers to Kolkata cross here.
An eighteenth-century hut-roofed (chala-style) Shiva temple at Chanchra on Jashore's southern edge, decorated with terracotta and linked to the old Chanchra estate.
Around Godkhali in Jhikargachha, fields of marigold, rose, tuberose and gerbera stretch across the villages. The early-morning wholesale flower market is worth seeing too.
The family home of poet Michael Madhusudan Dutt in Keshabpur upazila, now a memorial museum, beside the Kapotaksha river he wrote about in a famous sonnet.
Local produce
In winter, tappers collect sap from date palms and boil it into liquid jhola gur and solid patali. Jashore's date jaggery is known nationwide.
Sweet
The roshogolla and sweets of Jamtola bazar in Sharsha upazila have long been famous — worth a stop on the way to Benapole.
At Benapole, ignore touts and exchange money only at authorised counters. Traffic is fast on the Jashore–Benapole and Jashore–Khulna highways, so take care crossing.

Practical tips, not rules. Customs vary by person and place, so watch what people around you do, ask when unsure, and use your own judgement.
Keep plenty of small notes. Cash is still the norm at village shops, tea stalls and on rickshaws.
Why: Change for large notes is often hard to find.
In towns many places accept bKash or Nagad, but do not rely on it in remote areas. Ask before you order or ride.
Why: Mobile payments stall wherever the network drops.
Withdraw the cash you need before leaving the district town. ATMs thin out in rural areas.
Agree the fare before you get into a CNG, rickshaw, van or boat: the trip out, the return and any waiting time. In bigger cities where ride apps work, they are an option too.
Why: Arguing about the fare afterwards leaves you with no bargaining power.
Buy long-distance bus tickets at the operator's counter and arrive a little before departure. On overnight buses keep a small bag within reach.
Launch, ferry and trawler timings shift with tides, weather and fog. Check at the ghat or with the boatman the day before.
Why: If the last boat has gone, there may be no way back that day.
Buses, trains and launches are packed around Eid. If you can, plan around those days.
