Feni is a small district right at the midpoint of the Dhaka–Chattogram highway. Most people only stop for a break, but the reservoir and birdlife at the Muhuri Project in Sonagazi, the old Bijoy Singh Dighi near town and a Mughal-era mosque at Chhagalnaiya make for a quiet day out.

About the seasons: Winter brings migratory birds to the Muhuri Project and pleasant weather. In the monsoon, flash floods from upstream can hit the north of the district, especially Fulgazi and Parshuram, so check the news before travelling.
Buses on the Dhaka–Chattogram highway stop at Feni, and there are direct buses from Dhaka too.
Several trains on the Dhaka–Chattogram line stop at Feni Junction.
Rickshaws and easy-bikes get you around town. Hiring a CNG is the easiest way to Sonagazi or Chhagalnaiya.
Feni town has simple hotels. The sights are close together, so a day trip from Chattogram or Cumilla works well.
This is general guidance on the kinds of stay available, not a recommendation of specific hotels. Check and book for yourself before you go.

A large old tank near Feni town, ringed by trees and paths. A calm spot to sit out an afternoon.

An old three-domed Mughal-period mosque at Chhagalnaiya. It is small, but worth a look if you like historic architecture.

The dam and reservoir of an irrigation project built in the 1980s where the Feni, Muhuri and Kalidas-Pahalia rivers meet at Sonagazi. In winter, locals come to walk the embankment, take boat rides and watch waterfowl.
Traffic on the highway is fast — cross with care. Flash floods can hit the northern upazilas in the monsoon. Ask for a life jacket on boats at the Muhuri Project and take care along the edge of the embankment.

Practical tips, not rules. Customs vary by person and place, so watch what people around you do, ask when unsure, and use your own judgement.
Keep plenty of small notes. Cash is still the norm at village shops, tea stalls and on rickshaws.
Why: Change for large notes is often hard to find.
In towns many places accept bKash or Nagad, but do not rely on it in remote areas. Ask before you order or ride.
Why: Mobile payments stall wherever the network drops.
Withdraw the cash you need before leaving the district town. ATMs thin out in rural areas.
Agree the fare before you get into a CNG, rickshaw, van or boat: the trip out, the return and any waiting time. In bigger cities where ride apps work, they are an option too.
Why: Arguing about the fare afterwards leaves you with no bargaining power.
Buy long-distance bus tickets at the operator's counter and arrive a little before departure. On overnight buses keep a small bag within reach.
Launch, ferry and trawler timings shift with tides, weather and fog. Check at the ghat or with the boatman the day before.
Why: If the last boat has gone, there may be no way back that day.
Buses, trains and launches are packed around Eid. If you can, plan around those days.
