Barguna sits where the Payra, Bishkhali and Baleshwar rivers meet the sea. Its southern edge holds spotted deer in the Haringhata forest of Patharghata, mangroves at Tengragiri (Fatrar Bon) in Taltali and quiet beaches such as Shuvo Sondha, while the Bibi Chini mosque in Betagi recalls the seventeenth century. It is close to Kuakata but far less crowded.

About the seasons: November to February brings calm rivers and dry forest paths. In the monsoon, tides flood the trails, and the coast is risky during cyclone season.
Direct buses run from Dhaka via the Padma Bridge to Barguna, Patharghata and Amtali–Taltali, and there are buses from Barishal.
Overnight launches run from Dhaka's Sadarghat towards Barguna.
The nearest airport is at Barishal.
Buses, auto-rickshaws and motorbikes link the upazilas. At Haringhata and Tengragiri you reach the forest edge by road and explore on foot; some crossings need a ferry boat.
Barguna town and Patharghata have simple hotels; options near the forests are very limited. Many travellers stay in Kuakata and visit Taltali for the day.
This is general guidance on the kinds of stay available, not a recommendation of specific hotels. Check and book for yourself before you go.

A single-domed Mughal-style mosque in Betagi upazila, built in the seventeenth century by the preacher Shah Neyamat Ullah on raised ground. It is a protected monument.

A planted coastal mangrove forest where the Bishkhali meets the Baleshwar in Patharghata, declared an eco park in 2011. Large herds of spotted deer, a raised walkway and lonely beaches such as Laldia lie beyond the trees.
A beach about 4.5 km long at Nolbunia in Taltali, near the meeting of the Payra, Bishkhali and Baleshwar, backed by casuarina trees. It opened as a tourist spot in 2017.
A sea-facing mangrove forest in Taltali upazila, known locally as Fatrar Bon and declared a wildlife sanctuary in 2010. The usual entry point is around Sonakata.
Currents are strong on the beaches near the river mouths, so avoid swimming. Do not wander the forests alone, and check tide times before walking the trails. Stay away from the coast when a cyclone signal is up, and make sure boats carry life jackets.

Practical tips, not rules. Customs vary by person and place, so watch what people around you do, ask when unsure, and use your own judgement.
Keep plenty of small notes. Cash is still the norm at village shops, tea stalls and on rickshaws.
Why: Change for large notes is often hard to find.
In towns many places accept bKash or Nagad, but do not rely on it in remote areas. Ask before you order or ride.
Why: Mobile payments stall wherever the network drops.
Withdraw the cash you need before leaving the district town. ATMs thin out in rural areas.
Agree the fare before you get into a CNG, rickshaw, van or boat: the trip out, the return and any waiting time. In bigger cities where ride apps work, they are an option too.
Why: Arguing about the fare afterwards leaves you with no bargaining power.
Buy long-distance bus tickets at the operator's counter and arrive a little before departure. On overnight buses keep a small bag within reach.
Launch, ferry and trawler timings shift with tides, weather and fog. Check at the ghat or with the boatman the day before.
Why: If the last boat has gone, there may be no way back that day.
Buses, trains and launches are packed around Eid. If you can, plan around those days.
