Their journey
Alison Hargreaves was the first woman to climb Everest solo without supplementary oxygen or Sherpa support, on 13 May 1995, and the first person to solo all six great north faces of the Alps in one season. She reached the summit of K2 on 13 August 1995. A violent storm caught climbers from several teams on the way down, and seven people, including her, died.
Their love for travel
She wanted to climb the world's highest peaks on her own terms, and her ambition and skill inspired climbers, including her children.
